HS: Shelby Research Building
UAB’s new Richard C. Annete N. Shelby Interdisciplinary Biomedicial Research Building

For decades, UAB biomedical researchers have been at the forefront of discovery worldwide. UAB’s commitment to research on the most debilitating human diseases is stronger than ever with the completion of the new Richard C. and Annette N. Shelby Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building at UAB.

Located on the corner of 19th Street and University Boulevard, the striking neoclassical brick structure features a rotunda at the main entrance, clad with limestone and topped with a copper dome. The 12-story building expands research space on the UAB campus by 25 percent. At this new facility, researchers from a wide variety of fields will collaborate in studying important health issues such as diabetes and autoimmune diseases, and conduct bone, bioengineering and brain research.
