Busby Joins Urology

Dr. BusbyFay Fletcher Kerner Professor and Chair of Surgery Kirby I. Bland, MD, and Professor and Director of the Division of Urology Christopher L. Amling, MD, announce the appointment of J. Erik Busby, MD, as assistant professor of urology.

Dr. Busby joins UAB from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he spent 3 years as a fellow in urologic oncology, received the center’s 2006 Trainee Excellence Award, and was named a scholar of the American Urological Association Foundation.

He spent 6 years at the University of California, Davis, where he completed his internship in the Department of Surgery and residency in the Department of Urology.

Dr. Busby received his MD degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, and his undergraduate degrees in biomedical and electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University.

His clinical interests are genitourinary malignancies with a special interest in bladder cancer and urinary diversions, as well as minimally invasive approaches to prostate and renal cancers.

Dr. Busby, who has authored more than 30 journal articles and chapters, is a physician-scientist with research interests that include antiangiogenesis in prostate cancer with bone metastases.
